Wikman 别墅

The villa is located on the rocky shore of the open sea to the north of the Kvarken, the narrowest stretch of water between Finland and Sweden. The constantly changing marine landscape is framed by the boulders on the smooth grey cliffs.

The building, which is in two parts, has an unobstructed view of the sea and fits in as an unobtrusive element in the shoreline silhouette. The building is surrounded by a series of terraces, which allow life to follow the rhythm of the time and the seasons.

The building was constructed from long lengths of timber by local labour. It is finished with black tar articulated by light-coloured columns and beams, and door and window frames. The interior is finished in birch-veneered plywood left in its natural colouring, which acts as a backdrop for the ever-changing patterns of sea and sky.
